Africa-Press – Angola. A memorandum of understanding, which provides for the exploration of copper ores, was signed this Thursday by representatives of the Geological Institute of Angola (IGEO) and the American company, United States Geological Survey (USGS), on the sidelines of the II International Conference and Exhibition on the Mining Sector.
The territory to be explored is part of the region called the Central African Copper Belt (Copperbelt) located in several provinces of the Republic of Zambia and around a third is in Angola, in a vast territory that extends between the provinces of Moxico and Cuando Cubango whose feasibility study made it possible to assess significant economic benefits for the country.
The agreement signed by the US ambassador to Angola, Tulinabo S.Mushingia, in the area of Geological Research (USGS) and the PCA of the Instituto Geologico de Angola (IGEO), José Manuel, will also allow the mapping of Angola’s mineral resources.
According to the US ambassador, Tulinabo Mushingia, who spoke to the press at the meeting, the intention is to transform Angola into a supplier of resources for the energy transition worldwide.
The diplomat hopes that the location of mineral resources. bring greater attraction for investment, diversification of American partners in various sectors and benefits that guarantee improved living conditions for the Angolan and American people.
Asked about the brief inauguration of the largest Kimberlite in Angola, he replied that as partners it represents a step towards attracting investments and improving the living conditions of the population.
Along the way of signatures, three memoranda of understanding were also initialed between ANRM and the Canadian company Ivanhoe Group, which were signed by the PCA of the National Mineral Resources Agency (ANRM), Jacinto Rocha and the President of Ivanhoe Group, Marna Cloete, who include diamond exploration.
Participating in the second edition of the Angola International Mining Conference and Exhibition (AMC) under the theme “Mineral Resources, Development, Sustainability and Challenges, representatives from seven countries, a list of 60 speakers who share knowledge, providing information on current and future trends of the mining industry with the participation of 600 technicians.
Topics such as “Angola’s Vision for the Sustainable Development of Mineral Resources”, a session that will reveal Angola’s stance in relation to the development of mineral resources and its dedication to revitalizing the mining sector, with the aim of promoting stability and transparency to instill confidence in international investors are part of the debates.
The event will address issues such as the “Current state of mining in Angola”, which will feature views from the co-President and Director of Lipari Diamond Mines Ltd, Luiz Bizzi; and the general manager of Minbos Resources and HM Granitos, Asareh Monsoori.
