Africa-Press – Angola. Angola and Zambia face each other today, at 10:00 am, at the 6 de Outubro International Pavilion, in a scoring match for the opening day of Group D, of the 25th edition of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) in senior men’s handball, with a stage in Egypt, up to 18 of the current.
With a constant presence in the competition, the Angolan team is theoretically the favorite against the similar Zambian team that participates in an intercalated way. The two selections dispute the CAN with different objectives.
Under the orders of José Pereira “Kidó”, the Guerreiros play with the mission of improving their past performance and consequently guaranteeing a spot for the World Cup in January next year.
With the goals defined early on, Kidó and his team know the importance of starting the competition with a victory, taking into account the motivational levels of the group. Playing until exhaustion, in order to guarantee the two points, is the objective of the Selection.
Captained by the experienced Geovani Muachissengue, the national “seven” must play at the highest level, in order to frustrate the opponents’ attempts. Although aware of the superiority of the Angolans, the Zambians also want to win.
At 15:00, in the same venue, still for Group D, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Senegal will play. At 10:00 am, at the Hassan Mustafa Pavilion, Algeria plays against Kenya, a match for Group B.
The history together with the competitive quality gives the Algerians a relative superiority, against the Kenyans, however, both teams have 60 minutes to show their worth.
At the same time, at Internacional, Gabon and Guinea will face each other. The challenge between Gabonese and Guineans is probably the most balanced of the day.
At 12:30, for Group C, Tunisia faces Nigeria, in Hassan Mustafa, with favoritism tilting towards the Tunisians. Nigerians, on the other hand, need to be committed if they want to thwart the runners-up.
Egypt and Cameroon play in the last match of the day, at Hassan Mustafa, at a time to be defined, scoring for Group A.
