Africa-Press – Angola. The Ministries of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of Angola and Zimbabwe started, this Monday, in Luanda, to lay the groundwork for the signing of a bilateral cooperation agreement in the areas of teacher and student mobility, scientific research and evaluation of the quality of higher education.
To this end, a bilateral meeting was held in Luanda between representatives of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of Angola and the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology of Zimbabwe, where aspects related to the mutual knowledge of the two subsystems.
Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, the Secretary of State for Higher Education, Eugénio da Silva, said that the bases had been laid for future bilateral and mutually advantageous cooperation in the areas of agriculture, scientific research, mines and other areas.
According to him, the two higher education subsystems have common characteristics and similar objectives that are limited to promoting, reinforcing teaching, training highly qualified professionals, to increase scientific research and establish partnerships, also in the fields of entrepreneurship in higher education.
Bilateral cooperation in the areas of teacher training, teacher and teacher mobility, with the possibility that Angolan teachers can spend a period in Zimbabwe to develop experience, teach and develop research projects are part of the package of partnerships under study, according to the official .
“We made a presentation of our higher education subsystem, its characteristics, challenges, projects and we also heard information and a presentation of the education system in Zimbabwe with the real characteristics and we realized that we are facing a robust system, well developed that is reference in the SADC region”, he said.
Another area in view by the parties is the development of bilateral cooperation in the areas of teacher training and mobility, where it will be possible for Angolan teachers to spend a period in Zimbabwe to develop educational experiences, teach and develop scientific research projects.
For him, it is possible to develop joint projects in the area of scientific research, or in the field of agriculture, mines, tourism, areas of Zimbabwe considered strong, and also those included in the priority plan for development and diversification of the economy in Angola.
The Secretary of State for the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology of Zimbabwe, Fanuel Tagwira, who was speaking after the meeting, reiterated the availability of universities in Zimbabwe to receive and send students and professors to the aforementioned partnership.
He said that the education system in Zimbabwe is going through a period of modernization from 3.0 to 5.0, where research, teaching, innovation and industry are being emphasized, branches that will be part of the desired exchange.
According to him, Angola’s experience in the oil sector will be an asset to his country’s higher education system.
The delegation will hold meetings with institutions of higher education and some of secondary education.
