Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the Angolan Football Federation (FAF), Fernando Alves Simões, met on Wednesday afternoon in Buenos Aires with Claudio Tapia, his Argentine counterpart, to finalize the details of the friendly match between the Palancas Negras and Albicelestes. According to a note from the Angolan Embassy in that South American country, during the meeting it was officially confirmed that the match between the Angolan and Argentine national teams will take place in Luanda, as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of National Independence.
In the coming months, Claudio Tapia, president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), is expected to travel to Angola to finalize the preparations related to the world champions’ visit to the country. The Argentine leader’s visit will serve to deal with logistical, security, stadium and hospitality issues.The official announcement of this unprecedented clash was made on 21 November 2024 by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, during the opening of the 9th Congress of the JMPLA, the youth wing of the MPLA. On that occasion, the Head of State revealed that the idea of bringing the Argentine national team to Angola came about as a way of paying tribute to the country’s half-century of freedom and sovereignty.
“We place all our trust in the young players and technical team of the Palancas Negras. Taking advantage of this good moment for our national team, we decided, as part of the celebrations of the fiftieth anniversary of National Independence, to invite the Argentine national football team, with the giants Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi, to come and play against our Palancas in 2025”, stated João Lourenço at the time, drawing applause from the young people present at the congress.
