Africa-Press – Angola. Angola attended on Wednesday (4) in Washington, United States of America, the first Ministerial Meeting on Critical Minerals, an initiative of the US government.
Angola’s participation in the event is part of the deepening of bilateral cooperation with the United States, namely within the framework of the IGED-USGS Memorandum of Understanding for Scientific Cooperation in Earth Sciences.
The meeting brought together government representatives from several countries and international organizations, with the aim of promoting international cooperation in the field of critical minerals, as well as strengthening global supply chains in a safe, transparent and sustainable way, according to a press release from the Angolan Embassy in the United States of America (USA).
The country was represented by its Ambassador to the United States of America, Agostinho Van-Dúnem, who considered the initiative a relevant milestone in consolidating the international strategic dialogue on critical minerals and in strengthening Angolan economic diplomacy.
The opening of the event was given by the Vice President of the United States of America, J. D. Vance, who, on the occasion, highlighted the strategic importance of critical minerals for economic security, energy transition and global industrial competitiveness.
During the meeting, the note states, the US proposed the creation of a Framework Agreement on Critical Minerals, with a view to establishing common principles for responsible investments, technological cooperation and supply chain resilience.
