Africa-Press – Angola. The senior women’s national football team will compete, from 29 August to 11 September, in the group stage of the Cosafa Cup, in Namibia.

The information was obtained, this Tuesday, by Jornal de Angola, after the Zoom meeting between members of the board of the Angolan Football Federation (FAF) and the leaders of the Provincial Football Associations (APF’s), who will compete in the national tournament, from the 18th to the 30th of July, scheduled for the city of Lubango, province of HuĂla.

A source from the Technical Office of the National Teams (GTSN) made it known that coach Sousa Garcia is working on the preparation program for the Welwitschias Mirabilis.

“The coach already has almost everything prepared, that is, some details need to be fixed to start the work”, he said, without giving further details.

The same source assured that the Welwitschias Mirabilis start preparation in the second half of July, but without advancing the time and venue for the training sessions.

In the previous edition, played in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa, the National Team failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament, occupying the third position of Group A, with two points, behind Malawi, in second place, with six.

Mozambique was the “red lantern” of the series, with one point, in a group in which the South Africans were winners, with seven.

In addition to the seniors, Angola will also be represented with a women’s Under-17 National Team, in December, at a location to be announced shortly by the tournament’s organizers.

This will be the first time that the country will compete in the Cosafa Cup with a national team at the level.
