Africa-Press – Angola. The new Speaker of the National Assembly will be elected on Monday, during a plenary session specifically convened for this purpose.

Adão de Almeida is the name proposed by the ruling party’s MPLA Political Bureau to fill the position, replacing Carolina Cerqueira.

The process falls under article 40, paragraph 1 of the National Assembly’s Rules of Procedure, which establishes that the speaker of the legislative body is elected for each legislature and may be replaced during that term at the initiative of the party for which he/she was elected.

The first meeting on Monday will deal exclusively with the movement of deputies and the election of the new speaker of the National Assembly.

On the same day, the second ordinary plenary session is scheduled to take place, in which the draft law on General State Budget for the 2026 fiscal year will be discussed and voted on in general debate.

The third ordinary plenary session is to be on 19th, with an agenda that includes the general discussion of the Angolan Passport Law and the Regime for the Exit and Entry of National Citizens, as well as the Law on the Fiduciary Alienation of Real Estate as Collateral.

Regarding the supervision, the National Assembly will also review the Budget Implementation Report for the second quarter of 2025, as well as the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) Statute and the work plans of the Specialized Working Committees, among other documents.
