Africa-Press – Angola. Angola’s ambassador to Botswana, Beatriz Morais, stated on Saturday in Gaborone that cooperation between the two countries remains one of the most beneficial and relevant partnerships of Angolan diplomacy in the region.

Speaking at the commemorative event for the 50th anniversary of National Independence, marked on November 11th, the diplomat emphasized that Angola and Botswana have marked 49 years of diplomatic relations, beginning on February 18, 1976, a period during which the two states have consolidated cooperation based on friendship, solidarity, and historical and geographical proximity.

“Botswana is an important partner for Angola”, she stated, stressing that over the last few decades several legal instruments have been signed aimed at deepening collaboration in various fields.

Beatriz Morais considered that the joint journey has yielded significant results, reflected in political coordination and increased bilateral interest in areas such as mineral resources, energy, logistics, agriculture and technical training.

He added that cooperation between the two countries represents a direct contribution to the stability and development of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

During the ceremony, the ambassador also highlighted the recent decoration awarded by the Angolan President, João Lourenço, to Heads of State and former African leaders, including Sir Seretse Khama, the first President of Botswana, a gesture she described as an expression of recognition for the support given to the Angolan people during the most decisive moments of their history.

The event brought together representatives of the Botswana government, members of the diplomatic corps, international organizations, businesspeople, civil society, diplomats and Angolan citizens residing in the region.

It also included an exhibition on the 50th anniversary of Independence and a cultural event with music, dance and poetry performance.
