Angola has a legal framework aligned with the ILO and SADC - minister

Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security (MAPTSS), Teresa Rodrigues Dias, stated today, Wednesday, in Lubango, Huíla province, that Angola already has a legal framework aligned with the objectives of the International Organization of Labor (ILO) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

This alignment, according to the Angolan minister, is linked to the creation and maintenance of decent and sustainable jobs, through the full exercise of labor rights, as well as guaranteeing the safeguarding of the principle of employment stability.

Speaking at the opening of the meeting of SADC labor and employment ministers, Teresa Dias, pointed out that the country, in this regard, listed some real international challenges that exist in member states, however, she considered that even in crisis situations, opportunities can be identified and used, stimulating the ability to adapt, to improve the social conditions of citizens.

In the regional chapter, he stressed that we are witnessing a series of “worrying phenomena”, such as inequalities between Member States, due to global socioeconomic changes, which influence the internal market, the decline of labor relations due to instability in the public and private business sector in maintaining jobs and youth unemployment, “which is one of the worst scourges in the region”.

The tendency towards informalization of the formal sector, an alternative for disadvantaged classes as a means of subsistence, the increase in child and forced labor caused by the cultural force associated with habits and customs and the search for cheap labor are other aspects that should deserve attention. attention, in SADC, according to Teresa Dias.

“Currently, despite the long path we have taken, we face new challenges that require the preservation of unity of thought and action at SADC level, taking into account the structural transformation and technological advances in our economies, which have resulted in the emergence of the digital economy and in changing our markets from an economic-financial point of view”, he appealed.

SADC, according to the minister, cannot neglect that one of its main objectives, to achieve economic development, peace and regional security, is to reduce poverty by supporting disadvantaged social groups, with a view to regional integration.

These and other situations, said the minister, require the States of the Community to engage in the search for creative and context-adjustable solutions, which is why efforts must be redoubled to promote inclusive, full and productive employment, including self-employment, for vulnerable groups.

Another priority, said Teresa Dias, is to promote sustainable companies and increase productivity at work, encourage equal treatment and non-discrimination, as well as the elimination of violence and harassment in the workplace, access to social security and facilitate extending coverage to all workers.

To achieve these aspirations, the minister said that it is necessary to establish a dynamic of effective social dialogue, mainly in the countries of the Southern region and it is in this context that she encouraged the Member States to sign and ratify the Protocol on Employment and Work in the Region.

The meeting that began on Sunday, with the meeting of experts, today has the concentration of ministers, who are analyzing the documents prepared by technicians, so that they can be ratified.
