Africa-Press – Angola. Angola hosts an African judo “OPEN” at various levels, from four to seven this month, at Arena do Kilamba, in Luanda, with the participation of 21 countries.
The event, taking place for the second consecutive time in the country, after the last edition, held in the same pavilion, will feature athletes from the cadet, junior and senior categories, of both sexes.
Speaking this Tuesday, in Luanda, the vice-president of the Angolan Judo Federation (FAJ), Josemar Frederico, stated that the objective is to collect the highest number of points for athletes aiming to qualify for the Paris Olympic Games (France), in September this year.
He said that the competition will feature a total of 339 athletes, of which 100 are Angolans representing various clubs and groups.
He indicated that Angola will be represented equally by six judges and an equal number of timekeepers, all accredited by the International Federation.
The event serves as a precursor to the African Championship, taking place from the 23rd to the 26th of this month, in Cairo (Egypt).
António Candeeiro (73kg), Adriano Tchissende (90kg), Piter Silva (100kg), Andreza António (57kg), Jeovana Freire (57kg), Leonardo Barros (60kg), Maria Niagi (70kg) and Aisha Maurício (58kg), are among national athletes with the possibility of obtaining a pass for “Paris`2024”.
In addition to Angola, Bosnia Herzegovina, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic (CAR), Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Guinea, Malawi, Mozambique, Niger, Panama, Paraguay, São Tomé and Príncipe will participate. , Senegal, Uruguay, Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
OPEN, a qualifier for the Olympic Games, is a competition scheduled in the official calendar of the African Confederation and the International Judo Federation.
In the last edition, the national team won four gold medals, an equal number of silver medals and 19 bronze medals, in seniors.
In juniors, he collected four gold medals, ten silver and 15 bronze, while in cadets he collected 12 gold, ten silver and eight bronze.
