Africa-Press – Angola. The national senior men’s roller hockey team lost(Wednesday), to the similar team from Argentina, by 3-7, in the first round of Group A of the 69th edition of the Montreux Tournament, taking place in Switzerland.
In the duel between African and World champions, the second half was disastrous for the Angolan team, led by coach Alberto Domingos “Jó”, who saw their opponent score four goals.
The country’s team had an acceptable performance in the first half, in which the score was equal to three goals, but in the second half it was extremely difficult, in which they ended up suffering more. For Angola, Neri and Rafael Lourenço scored twice.
On the Argentine side, Danilo Rampulla (2), Facundo Bridge (2) and Lucas Ordonez, Gonzalo Romero and Lucas Martinez signed.
The duel of champions, who last played in January 2023, on Argentine soil, in the World Championship, in which the hosts won by an impressive 4 -0.
In the also well-known Easter tournament, Angola’s best ever classification was third place, in 2015.
On Thursday, Angola faces Italy, also at 3 pm, and ends the regular phase with the team of HC Montreux, Saturday. In Group B, there are the teams from France, Switzerland, Spain and Portugal.
The traditional competition brings together the biggest world references in the sport, namely Angola (African champion), Argentina (World champion), Portugal (runner-up in the World and Europe), Spain (European champion), Italy and host Switzerland.
The Angolan team completed a pre-competitive internship in Portugal, in the region of São João da Madeira, for two weeks. The aforementioned tournament is a precursor to the World Skating Games, scheduled for Novara (Italy), in September.
