Angola Maintains Strategy for Preservation of Marine Ecosystem

Africa-Press – Angola. Angola is working diligently towards greater sustainability of its marine resources, providing stability and security to the ecosystem, without neglecting the concepts of innovation and development, the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Carmen dos Santos, guaranteed on Tuesday in Dakar, Senegal.

The government official assured this on the sidelines of the symposium on “Sustainable Development in Africa: Multidisciplinary Perspectives”, promoted by the African Institute for Applied Multidisciplinary Research (IARPA), according to a press release from the Angolan Embassy in Senegal on Wednesday.

On the occasion, the minister reinforced that the Fisheries and Marine Resources sector is committed to a vision centered on decision-making, based on the best data available from scientific research, with a view to continuous innovation.

She added that this model of sustainable development also applies to integrated fisheries management councils, as a way to give greater reach to sustainable fisheries and considering aquaculture as a response to this sustainability.

She added that the fisheries and marine resources sector has worked consistently to enrich the application of the four major conceptual pillars of sustainable development in the sector, namely social, environmental, economic and governance, fundamental conditions for greater community participation.

The minister said that these elements facilitate cross-sectoral cooperation, as they allow ecosystems to respond to the demands of the country, as well as other states that interact with Angola.

The symposium, among other aspects, is addressing the experiences and scientific advances of the African continent in specific areas of political, economic, social and cultural life.
