Africa-Press – Angola. Angola could increase the number of Level II coaches from the International Canoe Federation (ICF) with the integration of six Angolans, out of the 16 participants, in the regional course taking place in Luanda.
César Fidalgo is the only Angolan coach with this category, which allows him to work in the country and in other parts of the world. Nationally, there are only 20 Level I professionals, for internal use only.
Taught by former Olympic athlete and Level III coach, the Spaniard Isaac Villa Santos, the training, which concludes on Saturday, is based on the study of basic concepts of sports behavior.
From Angola, the team includes Rui Albuquerque, several times Team Leader of the National Sailing Team in Optimist class, Alério Paulo and Evaristo Morais (national canoeing coaches).
Also included are athletes Alexandra Custódio, Hilária Almeida, veteran Fátima António, and 10 more members from Ghana, Somalia, Djibouti, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Namibia.
Statements:
The Spanish instructor, Isaac Villa Santos, said that Angola has developed canoeing very well, but needs a more solid foundation for secure growth.
He mentioned that with this course, if there are suitable candidates, he will increase the level of coaches for mass participation work.
In his opinion, although the level of canoeing is good, there is still much work to be done in kayaking.
Veteran Fátima António indicated that it was a source of pride to be included in the list of graduates at this level, after having completed the first level in 2024.
