Africa-Press – Angola. The Parliamentary Forum of the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region (FP-CIRGL) has been analyzing, since Thursday, in Livingstone, Zambia, at the 14th Ordinary Session of the Plenary Assembly, the political, security and humanitarian situation Of region.

The meeting focuses on the conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the Central African Republic and South Sudan.

On Wednesday, the Conference of Presidents took place, in which Angola was represented by deputy Pedro Sebastião, representing the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, while on Thursday the opening session of the plenary took place.

On the discussion table are also approaches to “The Role of Parliament in Adapting to Climate Change in the Great Lakes Region”, information about the FP-CIRGL Parliamentary Fact Finding Mission on the Armed Conflict in Eastern DRC.

During the event, parliamentarians considered and approved draft resolutions on “The Challenges of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons: Focus on Refugee Camps/DI”, “The Role of Parliaments in Combating Child Marriage in the Great Lakes Region” , “The Implementation of the Regional Initiative Against the Illegal Exploitation of Natural Resources (RINR).

The agenda also included discussion of the draft resolution on “The Role of Non-State Actors in Promoting Peace and Security in the Great Lakes Region”, draft resolution on “Improving Electoral Processes in the Great Lakes Region and “The Role of Parliament on Promoting Climate Adaptation in the Great Lakes Region”, among other matters.

The event also serves as a presentation of the Board of the Finance and Resource Mobilization Committee to the Plenary.

The Angolan parliamentary delegation, led by the president of the National Monitoring Group for Regional Parliamentary Organizations, Pedro Sebastião, also includes deputies Sérgio Vaz, Suzana de Melo, Celso Capingala and Djamila de Almeida.

The Parliamentary Forum of the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region (FP-CIRGL) is an inter-parliamentary organization that brings together the national parliaments of the 12 member states of the CIRGL, namely Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic (CAR), Congo, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia.

The organization was created on December 4, 2008, in Kigali, Republic of Rwanda, after the signing of the Inter-Parliamentary Agreement that establishes it.
