Africa-Press – Angola. The Republic of Angola participates in the XI Session of the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC), which takes place from 17 to 21 October, at the United Nations International Conference Center in Vienna, Austria.
According to the organization, during the event, Angola will be represented in the plenary session by means of a State declaration regarding national developments in the field of implementation of the convention and respective Additional Protocols.
The meeting will facilitate the conclusion of the negotiation of important United Nations resolutions, such as those referring to the strengthening of criminal prevention and criminal justice responsibilities for the protection of cultural property in all situations, including in the context of military or natural disaster; the implementation of the additional protocol on the prevention, suppression and punishment of trafficking in persons, especially women and children, complementing the UNTOC; strengthening international cooperation to prevent and combat the illicit manufacture of and trafficking in firearms, their parts, components and ammunition.
Alongside the central agenda, aimed at reviewing the implementation of the convention and respective protocols, the work also includes the holding of thematic side events and coordinated bilateral meetings, namely with the delegations of the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
The Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime is the main body of the aforementioned Convention, which meets every two years to decide and adopt matters of common interest to the States Parties to the Convention.
The Angolan delegation is headed by the Secretary of State for Justice, Evaristo Solano, and includes the Secretary of State for the Environment, Abias Moma Huongo, and the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Angola to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Vienna. Teodolinda Rosa Rodrigues Coelho, as well as representatives of the Attorney General’s Office, Defence, Security and Internal Order, Environment, Justice and Human Rights, Financial Information Unit, as well as the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Angola to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Vienna.
