Angola Promotes “Capoeira Circle” in Israel

Africa-Press – Angola. A symbolic capoeira circle with a historical explanation of Angola’s cultural roots was held on Monday in Hofit, Israel, an initiative of the Angolan Embassy in that country.

According to a press release from the Angolan Embassy in Israel, the activity, part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of National Independence, highlighted the importance of Capoeira (an Afro-Brazilian martial arts) as a cultural heritage whose origins date back to Angolan territory and the ancestral traditions that accompanied the African diaspora.

On the occasion, the Angolan ambassador to Israel, Nelson Cosme, stated that initiatives of this kind bring communities closer together, promote cultural exchange, and strengthen mutual understanding between peoples.

“Capoeira is more than a martial art; it is a space of memory, resistance, and identity. Its deeply Angolan roots remind us of the cultural strength that our people carried with them to the world,” he emphasized.

He stated that Angola is celebrating not only 50 years of independence, but also the vitality of a cultural heritage that remains alive, respected, and internationally recognized.

“It is an honor to see the Israeli people gathered in a circle that symbolizes unity, respect, and history. Culture is a bridge that transcends political and geographical borders, and Angola has much to share with the world,” he emphasized.

The event included capoeira demonstrations, historical explanations about the connection between Angola and the development of this practice during the African diaspora, as well as a moment of interaction.

The initiative was promoted in partnership with the Capoeira Angola Israel group and was attended by diplomats and local guests.
