Angola reaches “quarters” and makes history in the competition

Africa-Press – Angola. The National Team is qualified, in an unprecedented way, for the quarter-finals of the 23rd edition of the Junior Women’s Handball World Championship, despite the defeat, by 21-33, against a similar team from Germany, in a match referring to Group III of the ‘Main Round’.

In the competition, which will take place in Slovenia until the 3rd of July, Angola finished second in the group, with four points. In the next challenge, the African champions face Hungary, the current title holder. The last meeting between the two took place in the pre-competitive stage, held on Hungarian soil.

Alongside the Angolan team, Germany guaranteed qualification for the “quarters”, as they finished in the first position of the series, with the same number of points. Outside were the Czech Republic, although with the same score, but with a lower goal difference , and Slovenia.

The match between Angola and Germany was marked by the superiority of the German team, whose victory began to be drawn in the 19th minute of the first half (7-9). With the tighter group, whether defending or attacking, Germany knew how to exploit the passing lines well and ended almost all attacks on goal.

On the side of the African champions, an apathetic game was visible, where nervousness was the most glaring note, as it showed several hasty attacks and inconsistent defenses. After 30 minutes the result was fixed at 10-16, in favor of the European team.

In the second half, Germany entered with the same determination, with the focus on triumph. After 45 minutes, they extended the lead to ten goals (16-26). In every goal scored and defense well accomplished, they vibrated effusively.

In turn, the national “seven” continued to chase the result, but without the desired effect. In the last minutes, Angola’s game became uncharacteristic. In the other group match, the Czech Republic defeated Slovenia, by 26 -23.

Minister attests to confidence in the CAN delegation

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto, yesterday assured full confidence in the technical, medical and athletes team, who on Friday will head to Cairo, Egypt, stage of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) handball male senior.

The fact was announced during the delivery of the Flag of the Republic to the National Team, an act held at the Sports Gallery.

“We know you have skills and together you can provide us with a pleasant surprise. We won’t ask for much. But make the most of your abilities to do well. Union is strength and, in this way, you will conquer your space in the competition” , he stressed.

On behalf of the group, captain Geovane Muachissengue defended that the ceremony of handing over the flag, although simple, is full of great symbolism.

“We are going to represent the Angolan people. We are aware of the constraints. Our participation is the result of the sensitivity of the Angolan authorities in relation to sport. Being among the best on the continent is always a source of pride. Therefore, we do not promise the title, but we will give the best to dignify the name of Angola. We promise to fight until our last breath. We will struggle to achieve the best possible classification”, he underlined.

In Cairo, before the African one, the Warriors participate in a ten-day pre-competitive stage, with three control games scheduled.

Here are José Pereira “Kidó” chosen for “operation” Cairo: Geovane Muachissengue, Jaroslav Aguiar, Edvaldo Ferreira, Adelino Pestana, Declerk Sibo, Manuel Nascimento, Feliciano Coveiro, Mário Tati, Adriel da Silva, Valdemiro Paulo, Custódio Gouveia, Adriel de Sousa, Aguinaldo Tati, Gabriel Teca, Elias António and Elizandro Garcia.
