Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the National Assembly (AN), Carolina Cerqueira, recognized this Thursday, in Luanda, the contribution of April 25, 1974 to the independence, freedom and self-determination of Angola.
The parliamentary leader was speaking at the opening of the V extraordinary plenary meeting of the II Legislative session of the V Legislature of the National Assembly.
He recalled that the historical event produced political freedom in Portugal and access to the independence of former colonies in Africa and the self-determination of their respective peoples.
He added that the celebration is not just a Portuguese heritage.
He highlighted, half a century later, the importance of democracy and the political, social and cultural rights of Angolans in the name of an independent and developed homeland.
He welcomed the democrats who in Portugal celebrate this 25th of April.
This Thursday, in Portugal, we celebrate 50 years of the Carnation Revolution.
Also known as the April 25th Revolution, it refers to an event in the history of Portugal resulting from the Armed Forces Movement, which occurred on this day in 1974, which deposed the dictatorial regime in force since 1933.
