Africa-Press – Angola. Angola will host an international karate tournament on Friday and Saturday, 20 years later, after organizing the 2005 African Championship.
The competition will take place at the Cidadela Pavilion in Luanda, with seven countries from across the African continent participating.
Angola, which finished second in the 2005 African Championship, is back in the spotlight as the host of the event, which will involve 120 karate fighters from across Africa.
According to Federation President Giliano André, the event will start on Friday with qualifying rounds, followed by the semi-finals and finals on Saturday.
André said that Angola will use the event to celebrate 50 years of independence by winning numerous medals and to give the national team, which is preparing for the African Championships in Nigeria in July, competitive experience.
The men’s team includes Nario Lopes, Leonardo Mayala, Victor de Sousa, Rúben Daniel, Emílio da Cruz, and Henriques Daniel (group A); Rodrigo Longa, Carlos Longa, João Vieira, Pedro Bande, Emanuel Sebastião, and Gildo Ngumba.
The women ‘s team includes Cristina Castela, Elisa François, Karina Nogueira, and Valquíria Caquarta (group A); Rosineide Fernandes, Oneide Baptista, Laurinda Cauanda, and Eunice João (group B).
Of the participating countries, Congo Brazzaville arrived on Wednesday, the DRC and Morocco arrived Thursday morning, and South Africa and Botswana will arrive at 6 p.m. in the capital city.
