Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan government wants to reduce the validity period of the Angolan passport from 15 to ten years, according to a proposed change to the law that aims to ensure greater security and reliability of the document.
The announcement was made by Angola’s Minister of the Interior, Manuel Homem, at the end of the Council of Ministers meeting, which considered the proposed law for submission to the National Assembly. Manuel Homem emphasized that this amendment aims to bring the current law into line with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards regarding the security of machine-readable travel documents, as well as to ensure greater security and reliability for the Angolan passport.
According to the minister, Angola is modernizing its Migration and Foreigners Services, with a focus on the Angolan passport, which now has “technical characteristics that allow it to be integrated within the scope of ICAO recommendations.”
“This is one of the objectives of this proposal that was presented to the Council of Ministers, but we also identified the need to improve some concerns that have been raised by citizens,” he highlighted.
One of the concerns is related to the validity period of passports for minors, from 0 to 3 years old, which in this proposed law will have a validity of three years, as well as diplomatic passports in the same condition for minors.
“Regarding the maximum passport validity, which under current law is 15 years for adults, taking into account ICAO recommendations, an adjustment was made to a maximum of ten years for passports issued by the SME,” he highlighted.
The Council of Ministers also considered a bill establishing a set of rules regulating the production, registration, control, import, export, marketing, transportation, use and disposal of pesticides, fertilizers and agricultural improvers in Angola.
Speaking to the press, the Angolan Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Isaac dos Anjos, stated that, with this legislation being submitted to the National Assembly, the perspective on the use and manufacture of pesticides and soil improvers is adjusted.
“Also to adapt to the prospects of the inter-regional market and the export of agri-food products,” said Isaac dos Anjos, emphasizing that the aim is to “update the rules for the use of pesticides, the conservation of pesticides on properties, the transportation and disposal of usable pesticides and residues.”
“All of these concerns are now more acutely reported by environmental protection and nature conservation standards,” the minister stressed.
According to the final statement of the meeting, other documents were also considered, including the presidential decree approving the adjustment of the value of pensions for pensioners of the Ministry of the Interior, in order to increase their purchasing power.
