Africa-Press – Angola. The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, highlighted on Tuesday (28) in Washington D.C. the importance of biologists in the permanence and balance of living beings.
While interacting with students of Biology during a visit to the Howard University campus, Esperança Costa emphasized the key role of biology professionals in maintaining a healthy environment, preserving ecosystems, food systems, and sustainable agriculture.
According to the Vice-President, systems linked to molecular biology, fundamental to understanding health issues, cell function, and genetic determinants, are areas where the contribution of biologists is indispensable.
On that occasion, Esperança da Costa also drew attention to the loss of biodiversity and climate change, emphasizing that the relationship between biodiversity, climate, water, and food systems must be seen and understood by biologists, as it is a central responsibility of their profession.
The official appealed to the students to dedicate themselves even more to scientific knowledge and continuous learning, valuing the knowledge transmitted by specialists.
“I hope that in 6 years you can make a strong contribution to the whole of society and to the continued progress of humanity,” Esperança da Costa appealed.
Howard University is a private research institution located in Washington, D.C., founded in 1867.
Recognized as an educational center of excellence for Black students, it offers more than 120 undergraduate and graduate programs through 14 schools and colleges, including Law, Medicine, and Journalism.

The first university to found a law school for Black students, Howard is often referred to as the “Black Harvard” for its academic excellence and historical prestige among historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
Currently, it holds the status of an R1 level research institution (Carnegie R1) and stands out in the areas of social service, law and African studies, training world-renowned leaders in the fields of civil rights, politics, arts and sciences.
