Africa-Press – Angola. Angola could be self-sufficient in the production of animal vaccines from 2027, the scheduled date for completion of the factory in Huambo province, said this Thursday, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, António Francisco de Assis.

The minister was speaking to the press after learning about the works at the factory, under construction in the Santo António neighbourhood, on the outskirts of the city of Huambo, in an area of 20,831 square metres, in the presence of the provincial governor, Lotti Nolika.

The work, whose completion is scheduled for 2027, will be able to produce 181 million 200 thousand doses of vaccines for mammals and birds, annually, as well as nine million 384 thousand units of various diagnostic reagents.

On the occasion, the minister referred that the factory was set for an annual production of 30 million 600 thousand doses of vaccines for mammals and 150 million 600 thousand for birds.

With this capacity, according to António Francisco de Assis, Angola can become self-sufficient in the production of animal vaccine, taking a qualitative leap in terms of development.

He said it was a factory with an international dimension, in which the Angolan Government could work so that, after meeting internal needs, it could serve other African countries, as it would have the technological capacity for the purpose.

Without detailing the percentage of the level of physical execution of the work, the official was satisfied with the progress of the work, which will be operated in several areas by young Angolans, having left new guidelines in place, for compliance with contractual deadlines.

Attention to fertilizers

On another front, minister António Francisco de Assis said that the Angolan Government is aware of the difficulties faced by peasants in accessing fertilizers, a fact that the country is still subject to, as it does not have a factory of this nature.

He referred that this difficulty will be resolved after the completion of the project to build a fertilizer factory in the municipality of Soyo, province of Zaire, which will produce different amounts for the increase in production.

He said that there are contacts with international partners for the installation of fertilizer companies in the country, to facilitate the growth of agriculture.

The official stressed that Angola has no other way to resolve the consequences of the lack of food production, other than to focus on family farming, as it is the most effective way to supply sufficient amounts of rice, cooking oil, sugar, flour and other essential products.

In Huambo since Wednesday, for a four-day work schedule, the official foresees, on Friday, to relaunch wheat production in this region of the country, and, on Saturday, to travel to the commune of Calenga, municipality of Caála , for the launch of the support plan for retail operators.
