Africa-Press – Angola. The Greenfield project linking the Republic of Zambia and Angola to be launched in 2026 is valued at 4.5 billion dollars, announced Wednesday in Luanda by the Minister of Transport, Ricardo de Abreu.
After participating in the panel on “Financing an Integrated and Cross-Border African Rail Network,” the official told the press that he is working to secure financing for the Greenfield project, which will connect Zambia and is expected to begin construction next year.
De Abreu said the initiative has several financing stakeholders, including the European Union through the Global Gateway Initiative and the MATEI plan, as well as the African Development Bank. These stakeholders will provide funding to cover the difference in the project’s viability.
The minister added that the United States and Egypt have also expressed a willingness to participate in the financing. He stated that the African Finance Corporation (AFC), the project’s concessionaire, is coordinating the process according to schedule.
“By 2025, we are committed to finalizing all the conditions precedent for launching the project in 2026,” said the minister.
