Africa-Press – Angola. Over a thousand free consultations were provided in 2025 to underprivileged individuals in the province of Bié by the Angolan Bar Association Council (OAA in Portuguese), as part of its legal aid program. Compared to 2024, there was an increase of 300 consultations.
Speaking at a New Year’s greeting ceremony, the president of the OAA Provincial Council in Bié, António Buta, emphasized that the legal consultations aim to guide beneficiaries in hiring lawyers in case of litigation and avoid taking justice into their own hands.
For this year 2026, he said, the focus will be on promoting free legal consultations to the province’s new municipalities, with a view to raising the communities’ legal awareness.
António Buta considered the activities carried out throughout 2025 positive, especially due to the results achieved at the VIII National Conference of the OAA, which Bié hosted in September, as well as the training actions promoted.
He also reiterated the materialization, in 2026, of programs that aim to contribute to the training of lawyers and reinforce inspection with justice bodies, in order to combat the practice of illegal law.
The province of Bié, with two million and 264 thousand inhabitants, has 56 lawyers and 84 trainee lawyers.
