Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço congratulated on Wednesday the people, government and President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Wednesday on the 102nd anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey, which is celebrated on October 29.

In a congratulatory message addressed to his Turkish counterpart, the Angolan Head of State highlighted the high level of friendly and cooperative relations existing between the two countries, emphasizing that they present excellent prospects for both nations to move forward with actions that produce tangible results in fruitful bilateral cooperation.

“I believe that we will be able to create strong dynamics, capable of intensifying within short periods the exchange that we maintain at all levels and in various domains of the economies of our respective countries,” wrote João Lourenço, reaffirming Angola’s willingness to continue strengthening the bonds of solidarity and partnership with Türkiye.

History of Angola-Turkey Cooperation

Diplomatic relations between Angola and Turkey were formally established in 1980, and have experienced a significant boost in recent years, especially after President João Lourenço’s official visit to Ankara in July 2021.

During that visit, the two countries signed several cooperation agreements in the areas of defense, air transport, trade, energy, agriculture, civil construction and education, consolidating a new stage in bilateral relations.

Since then, Turkey has established itself as an important strategic partner of Angola, with increasing investment in key sectors of the national economy.

Trade between the two countries has seen a considerable increase, driven by the presence of Turkish companies in Angola and the interest of Angolan entrepreneurs in the Turkish market.

Technical-diplomatic and business cooperation has also been strengthened through mutual visits by official delegations and the holding of economic forums, notably the Angola-Turkey Economic Forum, held in Luanda, which aimed to promote investment opportunities and consolidate dialogue between the public and private sectors of both countries.

Based on this framework of understanding and mutual cooperation, Angola and Türkiye continue to strengthen relations, with the common goal of sustainable development and the progress of their peoples.
