Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan President João Lourenço received , Thursday, in Luanda, a message from his counterpart from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Félix Tshisekedi, related to the next Summit of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL).

The letter was delivered by the Minister of Regional Integration of the DRC, Floribert Anzuluni Isiloketshi, who, as emissary of the Congolese Head of State, was received in audience by President João Lourenço, at the Presidential Palace.

Upon leaving the meeting, the Congolese official informed the press that President Félix Tshisekedi’s message has as its central focus the holding of the next CIRGL summit, scheduled for November 15th, in Kinshasa.

Floribert Anzuluni highlighted the role of Angola, as chairperson of the regional organization, in preparing the meeting, whose rotating presidency will be transferred to the DRC.

‘The preparation of this summit was practically bilateral, between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola, taking into account the country’s role as Chair. President Tshisekedi personally wanted to address the invitation to his Angolan counterpart and listen to his recommendations to ensure a harmonious transition of the presidency’, he highlighted.

Asked about the political-military situation in his country, the Congolese Minister reiterated the DRC Government’s commitment to peace and stability, recognizing the persistent challenges in the eastern region of the territory.

‘The Democratic Republic of Congo is determined to put an end to this situation that has been going on for several years. We remain committed to regional, continental and international processes with the sole objective of achieving peace. Whenever possible, we will prioritize peaceful paths’, he stated.

Relations between Angola and the DRC are characterized by close cooperation and permanent political dialogue, with emphasis on joint initiatives in favor of stability and development in the Great Lakes Region.

Minister Floribert Anzuluni Isiloketshi’s visit to Luanda is also part of this framework for consolidating bilateral relations and strengthening the diplomatic and economic partnership between the two countries, considered essential for peace and progress in Central Africa.
