Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan President and African Union Chairperson, João Lourenço, considered Tuesday that many of the current conflicts are a consequence of the passivity of the UN Member States, which have proven ineffective in the face of invasions of third-party territories and interference in the internal order of sovereign countries.
The head of state, who was speaking at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, said that the absence of a firm, inflexible and assertive reaction from the international community before these violations has transformed them into consummate facts that are now in the epicenter of the great tensions that mark the global scenario.
He pointed out as an example the consequences visible in the Middle East, where the systematic default of UN Security Council resolutions about the creation of Palestine’s state keeps a conflict that gets worse every day.
He pointed out that they have passed 80 years since, by imperatives of this time, a set of countries and their respective leaders have made the wise decision to found the United Nations, which has since been achieving, among more tumultuous and others, to play their great role in maintaining peace and worldwide stability, contributing to the development of humanity, preservation and deepening respect for human rights.
According to the president, this is a great achievement of the peoples of the planet who cannot be neglected or underestimated by any power or political leader, under penalty of, based on egocentric visions and interests, lying to lose the benefits of peace achieved over time by men and women who have led the world in an environment of global harmony and reconciliation.
‘This route was not always done linearly, but at the most critical moments the wisdom overpassed the worst impulses of a large-scale conflagration, and this was possible by continuous dialogue as the only factor capable of planning divergences, overcoming obstacles and shaking the most troubled and bellic spirits,’ he said.
Nowadays, he stressed, these lessons from the past have an invaluable value and should be the only references to guide the solution of conflicts in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, Asia and all regions where outbreaks of instability persist.
