Africa-Press – Angola. The 1o de Agosto women’s senior handball team was not registered for the 46th edition of the African Cup of Champions Clubs, taking place from October 11th to 20th in Casablanca, Morocco.
According to a source from the red-and-black club, financial issues are the reason for the team’s decision not to go to the Maghreb, improving on their fifth-place finish in the previous edition.
The “military” team, now coached by Angolan William de Almeida, has nine titles, compared to Petro de Luanda’s twenty, which is seeking to retain its title.
Two active players from 1o de Agosto, namely right winger Dolores do Rosário and center Isabel Guialo, are being considered as reinforcements from Al Ahly of Egypt.
Eight teams are confirmed for the competition, with Group A featuring Petro de Luanda (Angola), Nouasser (Morocco), TKC (Cameroon), and Aspac (Benin).
Group B includes Al Ahly (Egypt), Africa Sport Abidjan (Cote d’Ivoire), Flowers (Benin), and FAP (Cameroon).
