Africa-Press – Angola. Around 20,000 vulnerable families, based in the five municipalities in Namibe province, are benefiting from support with basic food products, through a plan for the distribution of foodstuffs in needy communities in the region.

A document from the Provincial Office for Social Action, Family and Gender Equality, released during the IV Ordinary Session of the Provincial Government of Namibe, held yesterday in the main hall of the Municipal Administration of Moçâmedes.

According to the Government document, the plan covers the supply of community kitchens implemented in all municipalities to continuously provide food assistance, create a mechanism for direct interaction between administrations and vulnerable groups, as well as monitor the nutritional status of families through social support.

The members of the Government appreciated the status of the Integrated Program for Local Development and Combating Poverty (PIDLCP), referring to the period from January to June 2022, where the total amount received from the National Directorate of the Treasury was more than 840 million kwanzas , registering a level of financial execution of 42%.

The achievement of this percentage, the note emphasizes, allowed the municipalities to carry out a total of 47 actions in projects to promote agriculture, fisheries, livestock, education and primary health care.

The members of the Provincial Government of Namibe learned that, with the growth in the number of cooperatives, in the period in question, agricultural production increased by 84%, compared to the previous season, reaching over 500,000 tons of various products.

They were also informed that from 2018 to 2022, the capture at sea was 251,874 tons of diverse fish, with the revenue collected reaching more than 100 billion kwanzas.

Those present at the session were updated on the general framework of artisanal fishing in the municipalities of Moçâmedes and Tômbwa and its consequences on the sustainability of fishing resources in the province of Namibe.

The Support Program for Production Credit, Export Diversification and Import Substitution (PRODESI) and the Agrarian Development Support Fund (FADA) were also informed to participants.

60 PIIM Projects Concluded

The balance report on Namibe’s government action also shows that the province has made progress in the extension of the public network, improvement in energy distribution, construction of a supply pipeline, reinforcement and requalification of the water collection system.

In this period, the Energy and Water sector gained 2,089 new household connections, benefiting 12,534 residents.

As part of the PIIM works, 60 social infrastructures were completed and 53 of the 107 projects registered at the province level were inaugurated.

Likewise, it informs that the road network has improved, with the paving of 81 kilometers of roads of the primary network, construction of 76 kilometers of dirt road and clarifies that the works to requalify the roads and construction of new streets in progress in the municipalities of Moçâmedes and Tômbwa, already executed in the order of 49%.

The document from the Government of Namibe emphasizes that the PIIM also allowed the construction of 93 houses for professionals in the Education and Health sectors, which generated a total of 2,484 direct and indirect jobs.

“There are prospects for an increase to more than five thousand, due to the opening of another 17 projects in the coming days, which will allow the insertion of more than ten thousand students into the education system”, highlights the note from the meeting.

So far, the Health sector has already opened 14 projects, followed by Education, with nine structures built and three rehabilitated.
