Africa-Press – Angola. The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources on Monday in the municipality of Tômbwa, coastal Namibe Province, reinforced 27 artisanal fishing cooperatives with the delivery of equipment such as vests, nets, buckets, grids and other items, to improve the activity of operators in the sector.
At the delivery ceremony, the minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Carmen dos Santos, informed that the initiative aims to promote inclusion, with policies that bring dignity to the operators and greater compliance for the improvement of artisanal fishing and its operators.
He emphasized that the sector will continue to develop actions aimed at increasing the capacity of artisanal fishing operators, fulfilling one of the recommendations of the Head of State.
In turn, the provincial governor of Namibe, Archer Mangueira, stated that the authorities will continue to develop actions that result in a balanced management of biomass, ensuring compliance with measures aimed at preserving resources.
“Our goal is to do everything possible to ensure that marine resources remain available to society”, he said.
She recalled that the municipality, which previously had many inoperative infrastructures, currently has 24 fully operational companies and four that are paralyzed.
At the ceremony, the members of the cooperatives, mostly composed of women, thanked the initiative and praised the government’s commitment to supporting fishing communities, which they contribute daily to the development of the sector.
The beneficiaries stated that the incentives they have received in recent years are allowing them to generate income for their families, in addition to providing stability to the sector.
