Asphalt on the Lobito Corridor Road Reaches Luacano in December

Africa-Press – Angola. The ongoing asphalting of National Road 250 (EN), a section between the municipalities of Luau and Cameia, in the province of Moxico Leste, part of the Lobito Corridor, has reached 70 kilometers and is expected to reach the municipality of Luacano in December (nearly 100 km).

The EN250 connects the provinces of Moxico Leste, Moxico-Bié, Huambo, and Benguela. It is one of the supporting infrastructures of the Lobito Corridor, under construction alongside the Benguela Railway (in addition to the port and airports), which, in Angola, begins in Lobito and ends in Luau.

Construction on the Luau-Luacano-Cameia section, a 176-kilometer stretch spanning three municipalities in East Moxico, will cost 183 billion, 490 million, and 210,000 kwanzas and is expected to be completed in 2026, employing 600 people.

To complete the sections in eastern Angola, the Luena-Leua road, just 52 kilometers long, and then the Luena-Munhango (Bié) road, approximately 156 kilometers long, will remain to be paved. The estimated cost of this route is 176 million, 527,000 euros, including bridge construction and oversight.

The Luau-Luacano-Cameia section is under the responsibility of the company AFAVIAS, committed to paving the road up to the municipality of Cameia, and significant progress has been made.

With 70 kilometers already paved, earthworks are now underway, reaching the town of Caifuxi, in the municipality of Luacano. It is estimated that the asphalt will reach the town of Luacano (Luacano) by December.

The governor of Moxico Leste, Crispiniano dos Santos, was informed of the progress of the work and encouraged the technical team on the ground to continue the work.

In the coming days, Crispiniano dos Santos is expected to travel to the municipalities of Lóvua do Zambeze, continuing his consultation and supervision program.
