Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Bar Association (OAA) received, Thursday (28), an invitation from the National Electoral Commission (CNE) to participate in the process of the General Elections of August 24, with 36 observers.
Despite accepting and thanking the formulation of the invitation, since in the 2017 General Elections the Angolan Bar Association was not invited for the observation exercise, the institution informed the CNE that, given the fact that it was represented in almost the entire national territory, needs at least 14 more lawyers to be included.
The request presented to the governing body of the General Elections is based on the concern that, in terms of the responsibility entrusted to it by the CNE, the OAA can provide a better service to the Nation, which can only be verified if it manages to license at least 50 observers, where the 14 lawyers mentioned above are included.
Constitutionally consecrated as an essential institution for the administration of justice and the affirmation of citizenship, the OAA has around 10,000 registered members, including lawyers and trainees, domiciled in all provinces of the country, having installed 10 Provincial Councils and 5 delegations.
The chairman of the Angolan Bar Association, Luís Paulo Monteiro, contacted via WhatsApp from Barcelona, stressed that, with 36 observers, they will follow up as possible.
