Africa-Press – Angola. The province of Benguela was crowned Sunday, in the city of Huambo, champion of the first edition of the Inter-provincial Karate-Dó Championship, by male and female senior team, winning two gold medals and one silver
The “Benguelenses” won in the specialty of male kata and female kata, where they obtained, in the latter, also, a silver in kata.
In second place, by team, was the province of Huambo with a gold medal in women’s kumite and two silver medals in the same specialty and an equal number in men’s kata.
The third place was occupied by the province of Bié, with a gold medal in male kumite, a silver and bronze medal, both in female kumite.
In individual, the province of Huambo won in the women’s kumite discipline, Cuanza Sul in kata, while Benguela won the title in men’s kata.
The competition, which was not disputed in men’s kumite, also had the participation of the province of Cuando Cubando, in a total of 120 athletes, representing eight teams.
Played in days, the event, an initiative of the Angolan Federation of the sport, aimed to maintain the technical and tactical level of the athletes from the central region of the country and, at the same time, increase their competitive capacity.
Karate-Do is a fighting modality of Japanese origin, but developed under the influence of Chinese war art, Japanese traditional fights and Japanese warrior disciplines.
