Africa-Press – Angola. The 23 years of priesthood of the bishop of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the World “Os Tocoistas”, Dom Afonso Nunes, were marked by the celebration of a thanksgiving service, held this Sunday, in Luanda.
Dom Afonso Nunes was ordained and consecrated bishop by spiritual indication in July 2000 and reconfirmed by the 3rd Congress of the Church, held in July 2010, having adopted the name of MAYAMONA for his spiritual priesthood, in respect and recognition of the legacy of the prophet Simão I play.
During the homily, Dom Afonso Nunes instilled hope in the faithful, appealing not to be discouraged in the face of life’s difficulties, but to look for solutions to be able to move forward.
Speaking to the press, at the end of the service, the bishop said that with his ordination, 23 years ago, the church gained new strength, new dynamics, a projection both internally and internationally.
For the bishop, the tocoista church is reoccupying its place in the national context, above all, and according to him, today tocoista is an unavoidable church in the spiritual, social and ecclesiastical areas.
The president of UNITA, Adalberto Costa Júnior, who attended the service as a guest, expressed great satisfaction at having participated in the ceremony, which he considered to be rich in spiritual, cultural terms and also in terms of history.
The priesthood of Dom Afonso Nunes began 16 years after the death of the founding leader of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the World, the prophet Simão Gonçalves Toco.
At this time, Dom Afonso Nunes received the mission of “raising the tabernacle of David that had fallen”, aiming to rescue the identity and prestige of tocoismo, through the reunification of the tocoista family, the expansion of tocoismo throughout the world, the regularization of relations with the State, the development of ecclesial infrastructures, promotion and human and social qualification.
Upon assuming leadership of the church, Dom Afonso Nunes designed the construction of the Tocoista universal cathedral, with capacity for more than 25 thousand seated faithful, the Simão Gonçalves Toco school complex, the Instituto Superior Politécnico Tocoista, with capacity for more than 3 thousand students, the radio station -Voz da Esperança-, the Rose Hotel, as well as the construction of other ecclesial and social infrastructures in the other provinces and in other countries.
