Africa-Press – Angola. The Bishop of Viana, Dom Emílio Sumbelelo, urged Christians this Sunday to pray for the strengthening of unity and love for others, in this moment of national mourning, for the death of the former President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, which took place last Friday, in Barcelona, Kingdom of Spain.
The pastor of the Diocese of Viana, who was speaking on the 15th Sunday of Ordinary Time, at the Parish of Santíssimo Redentor do Kilamba, where 379 faithful received the Sacrament of Confirmation (Crism), stressed that unity is a good element to honor the memory of Jose Eduardo dos Santos.
Dom Emílio Sumbelelo stressed that men are pilgrims on earth, but assured that Jesus is the hope of eternal life, as long as the Commandments of God’s Law are known, fulfilled and deeply lived.
“Therefore, I ask that we pray for the soul of President José Eduardo dos Santos and for all the brothers who have left this world, so that God may receive them in His grace”, appealed the bishop.
In everyday life, said the Catholic prelate, each individual must try to live the commandments, which are summarized in love for God and neighbor, to bear witness to the presence of the Creator and guarantee heavenly grace.
“Who is our neighbor? Jesus responds with the Parable of the Good Samaritan, by making it clear that our neighbor is the one we can help and serve, regardless of origin, color or any other human and social condition”, he said. Archbishop Emílio Sumbelelo also asked that the Church of Kilamba pray for the confirmed young people, so that they may foster love and solidarity in their communities and be able to bear witness to the liberating Gospel.
“You are now soldiers of Christ and this moment makes you adults in the faith, so that you can take the Word of God to all peoples. Being creatures and belonging to God, you must live in the certainty that you are stronger. in peace the love of Christ”, concluded the diocesan bishop.
