Africa-Press – Angola. The athlete Lourenço Lunando, from Ginásio Gym Artur, in Bairro Bom Pastor, on the outskirts of the city of Huambo, won, on Sunday, the first Provincial Bodybuilding Championship, in the heavyweight category, with 660 points.
The event, held at the Osvaldo Serra Van-Dúnem multipurpose pavilion, in the interior of the city of Huambo, had the participation of six athletes, from Gym Artur, with four, Novo Sotaque and Gym Tchindingombili, both with one each.
In second place was athlete Feliciano Viti, from Gym Novo Sotaque, with 555 points, while third place was occupied by Justino Cameia, from Gym Tchindingombili, with 520.
At the end of the championship, the president of the Huambo Provincial Bodybuilding Association, Artur Salundo, made a positive assessment of the race, judging by the competitive level demonstrated by the athletes and the number of participants, although the region has a control of over 50 federated practitioners , enrolled in 15 gyms.
According to the person in charge, the poor participation was due to the late announcement of the championship, made on the 11th of last November, a fact that made it impossible for most athletes to prepare.
Regarding the situation of the sport in the province, Artur Salundo said it was satisfactory, noting that the number of practitioners in the region has gradually grown, with many citizens joining gyms.
However, he pointed out the lack of support from government authorities and the business class, as well as the discrimination of the modality by society, in general, as the main difficulties, despite being a modality with numerous benefits for health and socialization and promotion of job.
Bodybuilding is a sport where athletes are evaluated for symmetry, volume, body size and weight lifting. The routine of a bodybuilder athlete is arduous, as it is necessary to give up several things around him to be successful in sport.
Its origin dates back thousands of years, as there are records of body beauty and symmetry competitions in ancient Greece and Egypt. The sport began with displays of strength, and only in the 20th century did the separation between Weightlifting and Bodybuilding occur.
