Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan boxer Henrique Lando, on Saturday in Luanda won the first International Professional Boxing Gala, as part of the celebrations of the current month dedicated to women.
Henrique Lando, who evolved in South Africa and is a gold medalist at the Southern African Development Community (SADC) games, beat João Gomes (El Bamma Mastor), after the eighth and final stage, in a race that took place in the Cidadela pavilion.
In the other professional event, in the women’s category, Ana Liberal beat Isabel Tomás, by 118-111 points, in a fight part of the sixth and final round.
Of the ten scheduled fights, only seven were held, so the remaining three did not compete because the athletes were not qualified in the medical examinations.
The gala, whose objective was to promote professional boxing, is part of the celebrations of the month of March, which is dedicated to women, as well as the festivities of the 50th anniversary of National Independence, to be marked on November 11.
The international competition did not feature the boxer from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Dieu Mercy Mbidi, due to visa difficulties. He was at the event ́s highlight to face the Angolan João Gomes (El Bamma Mastor).
