Africa-Press – Angola. The Naval Command of the Angolan Navy in Cabinda reaffirmed, this Friday, the readiness of the troops in the protection and defense of maritime and river borders in the region, with a view to maintaining the territorial integrity of the country.
This position was expressed by the Naval Commander of the Angolan Navy in Cabinda, Vaz Gonçalves, at the opening of Jornada do Mar, in salute to the 47th anniversary of the Angolan Navy (MGA), to be celebrated on Monday (10).
On the occasion, Vaz Gonçalves informed that in the framework of this strategy, the MGA forces have carried out joint surveillance missions with other defense and security bodies, including the Captaincy.
It is with this strategic and economic vision, he continued, that the Angolan Government has been betting on a Navy that is increasingly capable of protecting the interests of Angolans in the territorial sea.
Vaz Gonçalves, who is also a Marine Rear Admiral, recalled that “the sea is a traditional space for circulation, a space for biological resources, a reservoir of energy and minerals and leisure”.
He regretted the fact that the sea is a victim of pollution, hence the need to guarantee its safety, being one of the missions of the Angolan Navy.
He said that it is within this framework that the MGA Naval Cabinda Command has been transmitting useful information and working to raise awareness about the Sailor’s Practical Guide, with the different authors of the sea.
The sea journey, alluding to the 47th anniversary of the creation of the MGA, has the fundamental objective of sharing knowledge about the sea and the preservation of the ecosystem and promoting maritime awareness for the diversified use of the sea by its populations.
The deputy governor of Cabinda, for the Economic sector, Macário Lembe, encouraged the staff of the Cabinda Naval Command of the Angolan Navy, the sense of mission in protecting the maritime and river borders of the province, against illegal immigration, smuggling and drug trafficking .
The Angolan Navy has the mission of protecting the maritime and river waters of the national territory and other strategic objectives of the country.
