Africa-Press – Angola. The Beta Ngo carnival group is investing in innovation, with the aim of maintaining the legacy of achievements, taking into account social, cultural, traditional and economic changes.
The group, created in 1999, is the oldest in the province of Cunene and has a legion of followers. Throughout its existence, it won 15 titles, including the 2023 edition of the provincial carnival in the adult category.
The group’s president, Domingos Mateus, told this Wednesday, in the city of Ondjiva, capital of Cunene, that the essence of carnival is progressive, as it presents cultural, aesthetic, melodic aspects and content and linguistic varieties, so that the new generation can learn and express themselves in a more incessant way.
He added that carnival needs innovations, but tradition must remain, in order to guarantee greater visibility, quality and aesthetics of clothing, themes and plot, to surprise the panel of judges and other competitors.
For the person responsible, one of the secrets is to keep the group concentrated, whose commitment leads revelers to a generational behavior, with more than 400 effective members and thousands of followers.
He highlighted that throughout its existence, Beta Ngo has always participated in carnival editions in both categories, and remains in the first three classified, the result of hard work and discipline outlined at the end of each edition, aiming to prepare the next.
Domingos Mateus said that Cunene, as a border province, has added responsibilities in organizing the biggest cultural festival in the country, to allow Namibian tourists to come and witness it.
In terms of support, he said that the participation of businesspeople is still low, a fact that requires greater persistence from the organizers, to involve this class in supporting and sponsoring the different groups.
For the 2024 edition, he said everything has been taken care of from the point of view of rehearsals, clothing, making of crowns, among other instruments, to allow dignified participation in the municipal and provincial parades.
