Africa-Press – Angola. The Provincial Infrastructure Office of Uíge has cataloged 10 buildings that need permanent maintenance, in order to prevent their structures from being compromised and, consequently, the risk of collapsing.

Built more than 50 years ago, among the buildings with four, five and eight floors, the Café Lima, Congo Agrícola, Imbondeiro, Progresso and Hotel Chave de Ouro buildings, all located in the center of the city of Uíge, stand out. .

This Tuesday, the director of the Provincial Office of Infrastructure and Technical Services of Uíge, Alexandrino Afonso, advised residents against making changes to the structures of the buildings, to avoid compromising their structure and consequent collapse.

As preventive measures, he explained that the provincial government, in collaboration with some residents, has been cleaning the drainage channels of the buildings, to facilitate the disposal of wastewater and prevent infiltration in the structures of the buildings.

“Right now, there is no building on the verge of collapsing, despite the fact that last year a balcony of the Banco Atlântico building collapsed”, he said.

Even so, Alexandrino Afonso said that 1,800 families from buildings that are in a poor state of repair could be relocated in the coming years, with the completion of new housing projects.

In 2022, the Provincial Government of Uíge relocated 300 families, who lived in risk areas, in the Project 500 houses, in the Quilomosso area.
