Africa-Press – Angola. The bishop emeritus of the archdiocese of Lubango (Huíla), Dom Zacarias Kamwenho, yesterday appealed to society in this city to continue to be guided by orderly civic conduct, with a view to preserving peace and national reconciliation.
Speaking to the press regarding the festivities marking the 21st anniversary of the Day of Peace and National Reconciliation, to be celebrated on April 4, the bishop stated that the date represents a historic milestone in the life of every Angolan, as it allows the enjoyment of a climate of peace , harmony and fraternity among brothers.
He said that with the silence of arms, the country has been following the path of development and consolidation of the Democratic State of Law, despite the economic and financial crisis that still persists.
However, he mentioned aspects such as the fight against corruption, nepotism, cronyism, money laundering and the loss of ethical and moral values, which, according to the bishop, still hover in Angolan society.
“That is why, when CEAST talks about a nation to rebuild, it also talks about a State consolidating itself, and the consolidation of the State is, precisely, in its constituent bodies, which will guarantee us that we will have the lasting peace that we deserve from fact,” he stressed.
He highlighted, therefore, the need for a permanent dialogue to contribute to the reconstruction of the country, since peace has cost the loss of many human lives and sacrifices.
He stated that the Catholic Church, as a partner of the Executive, will continue to direct, in its homilies and in different ways, messages of peace and love for neighbor as beacons for the preservation of peace and the deepening of national reconciliation.
The bishop considered that peace encompasses all Angolans, resident or not in the country, regardless of their religious beliefs or party color and race.
