Africa-Press – Angola. Catholic faithful in Angola expressed their willingness to contribute to the construction of a new Marian shrine, in the city of Ndalatando, capital of Cuanza Norte, which ensures the strengthening of spirituality and better conditions for welcoming pilgrims.
The manifestation of the faithful is a response to the appeal of the local church, which intends to build a new religious space in the city of Ndalatando, to welcome the annual pilgrimages to the Sanctuary of Our Lady Mary Help of Christians, located in the parish of Kipata, under the supervision of the Salesian missionaries of Don Bosco.
The current space is insufficient to accommodate the demand of the faithful who participate annually in the event.
For the realization of the project, the church has already identified a space in the town of Sobocoto, on the outskirts of Ndalatando, where a new religious infrastructure should be built, equipped with prayer spaces, accommodation areas and complementary services that will allow the faithful to be welcomed at any time. of the year.
The superior of the community of Salesian missionaries in Angola, Father Martin Lazart, said that several actions were already underway to regulate the space with the local administrative authorities, simultaneously with the mobilization of funds at national level and in various international missions where the congregation is represented.
The young Jacinto Manuel, from the archdiocese of Huambo, said it was the first time he had participated in the pilgrimage and praised the initiative to build a new sanctuary to which his community is committed to contributing.
Coming from the province of Cabinda, the faithful José Antánio Cabango considered it to be a long-awaited initiative, with his community having already made the first contribution to the project, which is expected to start next year.
Mother Domingas Manuel, from the diocese of Benguela, considered the pilgrimage as a great opportunity to reencounter with God, spiritual renewal and gratitude for various achievements in life.
He pointed out the construction of the new sanctuary as an initiative that reinforces the spirituality of the faithful and hopes for the massive contribution of all Catholics in Angola.
Elapsed over three days under the motto “With Mary, considered the light and hope of all peoples, we will all walk together”, the pilgrimage brought together more than five thousand faithful, from 10 provinces of Angola.
Several public transport companies and the train Caminho de Ferro de Luanda were mobilized to transport the faithful.
Active in Cuanza Norte since the late 1980s, the community of Salesian missionaries is represented in eight provinces of Angola, 44 countries in Africa and 180 countries around the world, where they carry out educational pastoral activities, professional training and promotion of the social integration of young people, especially the most vulnerable.
