Africa-Press – Angola. The members of the Portfolio and Ethics Committee, the body that regulates the ethics and professional deontology of journalists, have been without subsidies since the beginning of their mandate (2019).

This was some of the concerns presented to the Seventh Commission of the National Assembly, which oversees Culture, Religious Affairs, Social Communication, Youth and Sport, within the framework of an observation of the functioning of this body.

During the meeting, the chairman of the committee, Luísa Rogério, said that, together with the issue of subsidies, there is still a lack of financial, patrimonial, institutional and transport autonomy to carry out its activities.

The person in charge said she did not understand the reasons for subalternating the CCE to the Media Regulatory Entity (ERCA), although they are treated as a project of the entity from the point of view of allocation of funds from the OGE.

He clarified that in order for them to go out on duty, duly remunerated, there must be an order signed by the head of ERCA, creating bottlenecks in the execution of activities.

As for the proposal to change the journalist’s statute, under consideration by the National Assembly, he said that some issues were well received, but he was against the inclusion of journalists who are part of the leadership of political parties in the class.

“You can’t party to the professions, as it violates deontology, avoiding promiscuity in the exercise of the profession”, he reinforced.

In turn, the chairman of the Seventh Commission, Conceição João Faria Paulo, said that the dependency of this institution should be changed as soon as possible, for the full fulfillment of its responsibilities.

Therefore, he advanced that, in addition to the scheduled meeting with the ERCA, they will advocate with the competent bodies to restore the legality deserved to the CCE.
