Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic Sector of the province of Cunene, Apolo Ndinoulenga, considered, Thursday, in the city of Ondjiva, the contribution of the Founder of the Nation, António Agostinho Neto, to the liberation of the Southern Africa Region, a valuable legacy, filled with achievements that will never be forgotten and glorify all peoples who defend freedom.

Apolo Ndinoulenga addressed the legacy of António Agostinho Neto, in the context of the centenary festivities, referring, on the occasion, that the first President of the Republic was a convinced nationalist, who fought for the preservation of the cultural identity of Angolans, in particular, and of Africans in general, with the political objective of materializing unity among peoples and the independence of African countries.

According to the official, Agostinho Neto’s intervention in the international arena is well known, especially in neighboring countries, citing, by way of example, the maxim “in Namibia, Zimbabwe and South Africa is the continuation of our struggle”, condition that the Angolan State assumed and implemented.

This legacy, he stressed, was kept alive by the Angolan people, whose struggle contributed to the independence of Namibia, Zimbabwe and the abolition of the apartheid segregationist regime in South Africa.

When describing António Agostinho Neto as a great politician and nationalist, the deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic Sector of the province of Cunene, Apolo Ndinoulenga, considered him to be an unquestionable figure of great political, poetic, medical and cultural influence, whose relevance and history go beyond the borders of Angola.

Regarding the centenary journey of António Agostinho Neto, the deputy governor said that he aims to honor the statesman, as Founder of the Nation, and transmit to new generations the values he defends.

Agostinho Neto, who was born on September 17, 1922, in the town of Kaxicane (Icolo and Bengo), died on September 10, 1979, due to illness, in Moscow, Russia. Before that, on November 11, 1975, he proclaimed independence and subsequently became the first President of the People’s Republic of Angola.

As a writer, the nationalist wrote several works, especially “Quatro Poemas de Agostinho Neto (1957)”, “Sagrada Esperança (1974)”, and “A Renuncia Impossível”, the latter published posthumously in 1982. “Angolans holding hands for the future”, the act was witnessed by members of the provincial government, members of the National Assembly, representatives of political parties, religious leaders, traditional authorities, former combatants, academics, among others.

Neto’s academic legacy

Neto’s academic legacy and the use of the Academy and Art, in terms of artistic creation and the ideals that allowed the liberation of Angola and Africa, was discussed yesterday during a lecture given by historian Isidro Dahepele to members of the Government of Cunene.

Historian Isidro Dahepele considered Agostinho Neto a reference for national culture, whose teachings should serve as a source of inspiration and mandatory biographical consultation for anyone who wants to understand Angolan literature. He stated that Neto separated himself from the Academy, from Art, from Politics and from Medicine, to explore other fields, having constituted himself a figure that serves as a paradigm for future generations.

“The figure of Neto must be taken into account, as a man of letters, who leaves a vast legacy of works that should be explored in universities and general education institutions, from the point of view of poetry and scientific literature”, underlined the historian.
