Africa-Press – Angola. The Episcopal Pastoral Commission for Migrants and Itinerants from Angola and São Tomé (CEPAMI) called for vigilance and the involvement of society as a whole in preventing, protecting and combating Trafficking in Human Beings (THR) in the country.

The appeal was made by the national executive secretary of CEPAMI in Angola, Carla Frey Bamberg, during a conference on Moral Awareness and Defense of the Human Rights of Migrants and Refugees, held in the city of Luena, Moxico province.

On the occasion, held within the framework of World Refugee Day, marked on the 20th of the current month, the official recalled the vulnerability of children and young women in suburban and rural communities, fundamentally calling for the protection of traditional authorities in denouncing this criminal typology.

Carla Frey Bamberg, who was speaking on the topic “The issue of human trafficking”, recalled that human trafficking has involved more than 50 million people in the world, and in Angola, in the first half of this year, authorities have registered 110 cases, of which 79 are confirmed.

She warned that traffickers are properly organized, identifying themselves with good people, enticing parents with food and monetary values, with a view to handing over their children to be exploited.

On the other hand, he considered the need for greater investment in the country’s police and administrative forces, mainly at border posts, the strengthening of migration procedures, for screening, evaluation and appropriate referral, international cooperation and global partnerships, for safe, orderly and regular migration. .

CEPAMI is a body of the Episcopal Conference of Angola and São Tomé (CEAST), created on October 31, 2006, with the aim of organizing and streamlining the various pastoral services in accordance with the recommendations of the Migrants and Refugees Sector, of the Dicastery for Service of Integral Human Development of the Holy See.

It operates in different areas, such as the organization and intensive training of social agents to work in the dioceses, promotion of workshops, conferences, seminars with specific migratory themes for agents of the Public Order, educators, university students and people in general.
