Africa-Press – Angola. Transparency in accountability and the culture of open declaration of assets by public office holders was defended in Mbanza Kongo, province of Zaire.

This need was manifested, Friday, by participants in the act of “Consultation on the National Strategy Project for the Prevention and Repression of Corruption”, which took place in this city under the auspices of the Provincial Delegation of Justice and Human Rights. According to the final communiqué, quoted by ANGOP on Saturday, the participants also concluded that it was necessary to include content on corruption and its harmful effects in the teaching curricula, in order to motivate the new generation to combat the phenomenon.

The document also refers to the need for greater dissemination of actions relating to the fight against corruption, above all, the result of the confiscation of assets, as well as the provision of more and better material and human resources to bodies dedicated to combating this evil.

Continuing to invest in raising awareness and educating the population to prevent this phenomenon, as well as improving salary conditions in the Civil Service are other conclusions drawn from this consultation forum.

Promoting in Angolan society a culture of denouncing all practices harmful to the public and private interest and severely penalizing public managers who engage in acts of corruption are also among the proposals.

The approaches at this national meeting, opened by the governor of Zaire, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, were guided by public prosecutors, heads of the General Inspectorate of State Administration (IGAE) and the local Delegation of Justice for Human Rights. The nationwide consultation acts are part of the Executive’s challenges in the fight against corruption and in the plan to carry out the Study and Preparation of Proposals and Implementation Mechanisms of the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

The meeting was attended by public and judicial magistrates, deputies to the National Assembly of the provincial circle, members of the Provincial Government, municipal administrators, representatives of civil society, Defense and Internal Order forces, academics, public managers, businessmen, religious entities and traditional and other invited entities.
