CNE sensitizes communities for responsible elections

Africa-Press – Angola. The National Electoral Commission (CNE) in the province of Lunda-Sul created several teams of awareness-raising agents to clarify the communities in the municipality of Saurimo about the meanings of “elections, democracy, citizenship and civics”, as crucial elements of observance of all Angolans, especially at this stage.

The head of the CNE’s Information, Training and Electoral Education Department , Cláudio Paposseco, said that the initiative aims to resolve several doubts among the populations, mainly the “concept of the phenomenon of vandalism in this election process”.

The campaign of interaction with the communities covers all the neighborhoods of the city and the periphery of Saurimo, whose target group is the populations with active electoral capacity. The objective is also to sensitize voters to follow a path of peace in the sense of voting with conscience and responsibility, for the continuous consolidation of democracy in the country.

UNITA Praises CNE

The second secretary of UNITA praised the speed of the work carried out by the CNE, referring to the real-time installation of labels at polling stations and the proper mapping.

António Sacaheta considered positive the opening act of the electoral campaign of the Black Rooster Party, held last Saturday, and, on the other hand, disapproved of the posture of a small group of young people, identified by “civil society”, who on that day, said , “displayed posters and other elements against the biggest political force in the opposition”, which in his view represents “insult and can lead to acts of brawls between opponents”.

OMA And JMPLA Carry Out Door-To-Door Campaigns

With the aim of acquiring the largest number of votes in favor of the MPLA, the young people and the female arm of the comrades party carry out a door-to-door campaign to ensure their victory.

In the early hours of the day, the colors red, black and yellow were visible on the city’s streets and outlying neighborhoods, showing the appropriate posters, while detailed explanations were given about the MPLA’s Government Program.

For OMA secretary Maria Mabaia, the work has positive effects: “We have the largest number of MPLA militants in the inhabitants of Saurimo.” JMPLA secretary Franco Mutunda is confident of victory, judging by the work of the grassroots structures. “We have done a good job since the last elections in 2017,” he said.
