Africa-Press – Angola. Coach Pep Clarós will remain in charge of the senior men’s national basketball team until 2027, aiming for qualification for the next world championship.
The coach’s continuity is expressed in a statement from the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB).
However, the official contract renewal and the coach’s presentation are expected to take place on Thursday (20) during a press conference.
The statement revealed that the decision is part of the FAB’s strategy aimed at ensuring stability, and coherence in the competitive project launched in 2021 to strengthen the national team.
The new contract will cover the entire preparation and qualification cycle for the 2027 world championship, reinforcing the institutional commitment to the structural development of the sport in the country.
This marks the second reappointment of the 58-year-old coach, who arrived in Angola in 2023, after being reappointed in January of the current year to lead the national team until the end of the 2025 Afrobasket, a competition in which he led the team to victory, thus breaking a drought of more than 10 years for the national team.
On the other hand, Pep Clarós is expected to participate in the Brisbane 2032 Camp on November 22nd in Luanda, an initiative focused on observing and preparing athletes with the potential to participate in future Olympic cycles.
The activity will take place at the Kilamba Multipurpose Pavilion, involving 90 athletes from various clubs in the under-14, under-16, and under-18 age groups.
