Africa-Press – Angola. The coordinator of the Northern Judiciary Region for the province of Zaire, Neto Joaquim Neto, was satisfied Friday in Mbanza Kongo with the measures taken by the local authorities in the fight against fuel smuggling at the Luvo border.
According to the Deputy Attorney General of the Republic who was speaking to the press, at the end of a visit to the border commune of Luvo, fuel smuggling is a concern for the country as it facilitates the illegal departure of considerable quantities of oil products to the DRC. .
“This phenomenon constitutes a criminal offence, hence our presence here to find out what is being done to combat fuel smuggling”, he asserted.
He said that he had received guarantees from the police forces stationed in the border perimeter that the smuggling of fuel to the neighboring country was under the control of the authorities, as a result of the implementation of the new operational measures.
For the magistrate, the illegal departure of considerable quantities of fuel to the DRC has negative effects on the country’s economy, which is why he appealed to the corporation’s staff to redouble the fight against the phenomenon.
“Even if it is just a case of fuel smuggling, it is a concern for the PGR, as it is our wealth that is not being used very well to support the Angolans”, he stressed.
During his five-day stay in Zaire, the Deputy Attorney General of the Republic found out about the functioning of the bodies involved in the administration of justice, as well as visited various public institutions.
The province of Zaire shares a 310 kilometer border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
