Africa-Press – Angola. National and foreign specialists will address, next Friday, in Luanda, themes related to the Constitutional Court, from the reasons that dictated its institutionalization to the guarantee mechanisms of the Constitution of the Republic.
The debate will take place during a magna conference, framed in the 15 years of the institutionalization of the Constitutional Court, to be marked on the 17th of June, which will count on the participation of full professors Luzia Sebastião (Angola) and Rui Medeiros (Portugal).
According to a press release from this body, the Constitutional Court will carry out, from the 15th to the 30th of this month, various actions with the aim of promoting public debate around its institutional scope, as guardian of the Constitution of the Republic and to contribute to raising citizens’ knowledge of legal and constitutional matters.
The program also includes guided tours, three times a week, of the Constitutional Court’s facilities, so that interested parties can see the organizational and functional dynamics of this court and interact with some of the judges who make up its plenary.
The day will take place under the motto “15 Years of the Constitutional Court: From Institutionalization to its Affirmation as Guardian of the Constitution of the Republic” and will feature various recreational, sports and cultural activities, as well as a photographic exhibition on the historical course of the court.
The Constitutional Court is composed of 11 Counselor Judges, four appointed by the President of the Republic, four elected by the National Assembly, two elected by the Superior Council of the Judiciary and one selected by public tender, under the terms of the Law.
The Constitution of the Republic of Angola, in article 181, provides that it is incumbent upon the Constitutional Court to deal with matters related to the Process of preventive, successive inspection and unconstitutional omission, ordinary and extraordinary appeals of unconstitutionality, as well as the process related to the candidacy of the President of the Republic , Vice President of the Republic and deputies to the National Assembly.
Proceedings relating to political parties and coalitions of political parties and processes of an electoral nature, whether general or municipal, are also part of the matters to be dealt with by this judicial body.
